El-Rufai Laments ‘Envy’ Among Nigeria’s Political Class Amid Corruption Allegations

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has taken to social media to share his thoughts on envy among Nigeria’s political class,  amidst allegations of corruption and misappropriation of government funds during his eight-years tenure.

El-Rufai’s administration has been accused of siphoning ₦432 billion, leaving the state with huge debt liabilities.

Recall that in June, an ad hoc committee set up by the state Assembly to investigate finances, loans, and contracts awarded under El-Rufai’s administration submitted a report recommending the investigation and prosecution of El-Rufai and some members of his cabinet for alleged abuse of office, diversion of public funds, and money laundering.

In reaction, El-Rufai’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adekeye, dismissed the claims as “scandalous” and affirmed the integrity of the El-Rufai government. El-Rufai has filed a fundamental rights suit against the state House of Assembly.

Meanwhile, in a post on his social media handle, El-Rufai described envy as an “incurable disease” prevalent among the political class, leading to hatred and destructive thoughts and actions.
